| Betting in
poker is not as simple as betting who is taller than the other or
smellier. It is not as easy as deciding that the loser must get his
legs shaved or his chest hair waxed too. The game of poker has certain
rules and limitations that are followed to have some order of sorts.
The betting in Texas style hold em poker has got four rounds of
betting. The first two betting rounds are set by the impulse or
whim of the competitor. The last two rounds have are set as twice
as much as the first two, but the raises should not be that big
all of a sudden. It should be done in an increment manner.
Seeding the pot:
Two designated players must seed the pot before any cards are dealt.
Half the smaller limit will be bet by the player selected as
the small blind. The big blind player, is the player on the immediate
left of small blind, should bet the full amount of the smaller
limit. The blind positions shift after each hand.
After the cards are dealt during round 1 betting begins. It starts
with the person at the left of the big blind, and he must decide
if would want to match the bet of the big blind so that he can
still play. The rotation of the players will be towards the left
and when it’s the players turn, they must match the current
bet or be out of the game.
All players when it is their turn can raise the amount of bet.
They can raise the pot when they feel extremely confident about
their chance of winning. As this is also a good way to bluff out
the other players.
Usually if the blind bet is set at $2, the raise is also set at
that increment. If three raises have been made, raising is no longer
allowed. When play reaches the small blind he must match the difference
of the small and the big blind together with the raise to be able
to stay in the game. When the limit for raising has not been reached,
the big blind player has the option to raise it more.
Round 2 of betting starts once the betting of the pocket cards
has been finished and the dealer reveals the flops. The betting
starts again with the small blind going to his left. It is possible
for the small blind to actually bet or not bet (check). No additional
money will enter the pot when all players decide to check.
If one player has checked and a player further on makes a bet,
the player who checked can call the bet or even raise it. That
situation is called a check raise. For the players to still stay
on the game they must be able to call or raise the bets. This is
done so that the amounts of money being bet by the players are
equal. If he can not continue on, he can fold his cards.
After the betting is done on round 2 the 4th card (the turn) is
opened and the same procedure is repeated all over again. This
will be the same procedure when the 5th card (river) is also opened.
Then there will now be a final level of betting.
If more than one player still haven’t folded, there will
be now be a showdown The player with the best hands is able to
take the pot for the win.
The betting rule is confusing at first, especially if you’re
the small or the big hand. If you get so confused in betting in
poker maybe its better if you just take our chances on the lottery.
