Proper Ethics in Poker

When you become one of the best players in poker and get invited by the mafia to play, try not to be scared. Try not to wet your pants because that’s not how a champ should act. If you’re really terrified maybe by following the proper conduct of playing poker may get you home safely. Try not to win all the time too.

1. Don’t pick up your cards – some poker tables don’t allow the player to pick up the cards and only allow them to look at sides or corners. Don’t try to look at them repeatedly as if you were girl watching. Picking up your cards of the table may also cause the other player to see your cards.

2. Protect your cards – after the money is pushed return the cards to the dealer. If you are next to a dealer there’s a chance that your card may be accidentally scooped up. So put a chip on top of it to prevent it from happening because once the cards are gone it won’t be returned.

3. Don’t be over enthusiastic over your actions – don’t give back cards or chips to a dealer when it is mot yet your turn. You might lose money because the other players can read you. They also might be pretty irritated. I.e., if you fold before the others, you may not be able to raise and if you raise right away, the other players might fold right away and lose you money.

4. All verbal statements and non-verbal communications are binding. It’s like the court.

a. Folding – return the cards to your dealer without exposing them.

b. Checking – tap the table with your hand

c. Betting or calling – place the money in front of you and state the amount if needed.

d. Raising – put the money in front of you or state when needed.

5. Don’t splash the pot –don’t throw the money directly into the pot as it may cause the dealer to be unsure of how much you exactly bet and may cause a break in action. Put your bets in front of you so that the dealer can count them.

6. Place all the chips for raise at once. Don’t call a bet and then reach back to your pile to make the bet.

7. Don’t be so noisy – when you have a king of hearts and you threw it away. Keep quiet about it, chances are there might be another player who has a better hand with the community cards. Because of your exposure, other players may know or predict is someone is bluffing.

8. Don’t move slowly – delaying of the game is very irritating.

9. Don’t give the dealer any problems – if the dealer makes a misdeal, don’t harass him. Misdeals are part of the games.

These are the following ways in which a player must behave properly in playing poker. If one wishes to be a professional one, try practicing this stuff. It may even prolong your life when your friends don’t get pissed off at you.
