General Poker Rules

You may think that poker is just a game of having the best hand, calculating the best odd and perfecting a poker face but let me tell you, it is not just that. There are scores of rules to study and forgetting one may cause you to lose the game. To help you understand the game of poker more, here are some general rules to adhere and remember:

The Buy In
Upon entering a poker game, you’re required to make a full buy-in for that game. The amount of this is at least ten times the maximum bet for the ongoing game, unless it’s stipulated otherwise.

A poker player who’s switching games voluntarily must make sure that he has the proper buy-in size for the game he’s about to join.
A poker player is permitted to have one and only one short buy-in for a game.

Misdeals
Misdeals happen in poker games. Circumstances as such are listed below:

The first or second card of the hand has been exposed to other poker players due to the dealer’s error.

Two or more cards have been exposed by the dealer.

The first card in a poker game was dealt to the wrong position
Dead Hands.

You fold or declare that you’re doing so in a poker game when facing a bet or a raise.

In a poker game, when you throw your cards into another player’s hand, whether face-up or facedown, this immediately signifies a dead hand.

In a stud game of poker, when facing a bet, you do either of the following:
Mix your up and down cards together, pick your up cards off the table or turn your up cards facedown.

Irregularities
In a poker game, if a card is uncovered due to dealer error, the player is not given the choice to either reject or take the card. Instead, the rules for whatever type of poker game they’re playing shall determine the next course of action.

If by some chance, a poker player has knowledge of the deal being defective, he is of course obliged to make this error known to other players and all other concerned. If however, it’s found out that he has prior knowledge but neglects to point it out and instead tries to use this to gain an upper hand, he may lose the right for refund and his chips may be included in the pot for the next deal.

In a poker game, if there are one or two cards missing from the deck, this does not make the results of a hand void.
