A number of people have come to the misassumption that simply
honing one’s bluffing skills is always the key to winning.
Well, that isn’t true at all.
Familiarizing yourself with
the rules, in this case that of the Texas Hold’Em poker game,
will gain you the respect of your future peers and give you the
lead over your fellow calling stations as rules can make you see
loopholes in your opponents’ strategies if they’re
unaware.
For now, we’ll concentrate on the basic and introductory
rules of Texas Hold’Em poker. If you play it with the right
amount of cool and supreme indifference, you might just lure them
into believing that you’re a rounder instead of a novice.
Texas Hold’Em Poker Rule # 1
The game is played usually by two to ten players. A button or
marker is used to indicate who the dealer would be. If you’re
just about to start playing Texas Hold’Em poker, each player
would draw cards and the high card would be assigned the role of
a dealer.
The button will then pass on to the next player in a clockwise
direction.
Texas Hold’Em Poker Rule # 2
The button begins dealing cards, again in a clockwise direction.
The player in his left is responsible for placing one half of the
small bet for whatever stakes you’re playing at the table.
This is also known as the small blind. He must do so before getting
his cards.
Texas Hold’Em Poker Rule # 3
The player next to the one who just posted the small blind is
in charge of the big blind. These blind antes are used to increase
the pot size and so other poker players would have something to
gun for.
Texas Hold’Em Poker Rule # 4
Two cards are dealt then to each player in the table. The one
at the left of the poker player who posted the big blind will be
the first one to call the shots. He can call, fold or raise the
bet if he believes he’s got a really good hand.
Texas Hold’Em Poker Rule # 5
This goes on for each player until we reach the one who posted
the small blind. If he wants to continue, he must match the big
blind. It’s only in the first game that both players posting
blind antes are considered live. 3 or 4 raises are allowed per
round.
