Poker may
be considered an indoor sport but the strategies used are completely
different with what one uses in other indoor sports like billiards,
for example.
Billiards may be a mental game but with such a sport,
you rely more on your ability to calculate where to position the
ball, where to hit it and how to gauge your opponent’s next
move. Poker involves all those things too but one skill it requires
that rarely do any other game entails as much is the art of bluffing.
You need to perfect the art of bluffing if you want to graduate
from a beginner’s level of playing poker to that of an expert.
And for you to bluff the way legendary poker players do, you have
to master
several crucial skills.
CONTROL
Self-discipline or self-control is quite an important aspect of
bluffing in poker. No matter what happens, you must never ever
let them see
the truth in your eyes, facial expressions or body movements. The
term “wearing
your heart on your sleeve” is an absolute no-no when it comes
to playing poker. If you want to wear a heart on your sleeve, do wear
someone else’s. That’s the only way you can win in poker.
Practice makes perfect and it’s the same process to perfect
your self-discipline on the poker table.
ATTENTION
Don’t focus everything on your cards. To survive a poker game
and bluff successfully, you have to know the odds you’re facing
and the best way to do that is focusing your attention on your opponents.
Watch them carefully and see if their expressions would give away something
about the poker hand they’re holding. Knowing your opponents
very well could teach you a thing or two that may later on prove invaluable.
You may, for example, notice that his lip curls slightly on the left
whenever he’s got a good poker hand. It’s usually the
smallest of things that become the key to winning so do keep your
friends close
and your enemies closer.
UNPREDICTABILITY
This is the best way to bluff. If you are able to play poker with
unpredictability, without any preferred style of playing, you have
a good chance of fooling
your opponents and make them believe whatever it is you want them
to believe. Of course, it’s impossible not to really have a poker
strategy that you rely more often on than others but if you can make
it seem that your win’s a result of luck rather than careful
thinking, you may still escape your opponents’ notice unscathed.
