Elementary Texas Hold’Em Poker Starting Hands

The odds of you winning in a Texas Hold’Em poker game may be determined with how you start the game. Professional poker players know this and that’s why they pay attention to every aspect of the game, from the position they have at the table to the cards that they’re dealt with. Reading this article would show you what experienced poker players took probably quite some time, not to mention an enormous amount of money, to learn. Read on about the importance of positioning and fast forward your Texas Hold’Em poker education from beginner’s to intermediate.

Position, position, position!

EARLY

As there are usually ten players involved in a poker game of Texas Hold’Em, positioning can spell a terrifying difference on the odds of you winning the round. It’s always better to be in the last positions because by then, you’d know what you’re dealing with, literally and figuratively.

If you’re unlucky enough to be on the early position – the ones to the dealer’s left, usually the one posting the blind and the three consecutive poker players next to him – you’re in a tough spot. Only the best of starting hands can give you a good chance of winning as you lack pertinent information to calculate the odds. If you know how to profile your opponents, this is the time to do so.
The best poker hands you could get in an early position are probably one with large pairs or suited cards. Large pairs are better against just a few opponents. If you’ve got an average poker hand, just try bluffing your way out or intimidate other opponents into folding.

MIDDLE

This means you’re either the fifth, sixth or seventh player in a table of ten. Not the best position to have in a Texas Hold’Em poker game but certainly not the worst. With a middle position, it’s advisable just to stick with small pairs and try to hold yourself against other opponents.

LAST

Knowledge is power and if you’re a skilled poker player, you should be able to use the information you’ve gathered from the pokers ahead of you and use it to your advantage. If you’re the dealer, hooray for you as that’s the best position to have in a Texas Hold’Em poker game. Act cautiously against players who are in early or middle positions yet still makes a bet or raises the ante. But beyond that, it’s your show.
