| A very serious
poker player who comes in night in and night out to calculate his
strategies to win will be hard-pressed. Unlike black jack, where
the dealer always plays the same way, poker is very different. Since
you are not only dealing with the dealer to win the game, you are
dealing with other strategically great players as well.
When dealing with hand, the player must take the following factors
into consideration that may increase the player’s chance
of winning. One of the factors that should be considered is the
cards.
The cards – statistically in a 10 handed game you may only
have the highest hand 10% of the time. When you believe that this
10% chance is now within your grasp, try to bet aggressively and
force the other players to call your bluff. If you have a fairly
weak hand, try not to bet anymore and fold out. In poker’s
beliefs money saved is money won.
Judging the potential of the first two cards you are dealt can
tell whether you can succeed longer in the game or not. From a
deck of 52 there are exactly 1326 probable combinations. Because
the suits are all equally ranked, the combinations will be narrowed
down to 169.
It is helpful to compute the probabilities of the results when
you divide the 169 starting hands by 5 five groups. The groups
can be summarized into the following with their following frequency.
A pair of cards which can has 5.9% chance of appearing, straight
flush draws (13.9%), straight draws (41.8%), flush draws (9.7%)
and no draws (28.9%).
The first categories mentioned above can be further divided into
four sub categories. These subcategories are divided according
to their strength of premium, strong, drawing or garbage.
Premium cards are hands that are capable of winning on their own.
Here are some of their examples and the frequency of them happening.
Big pairs such as a pair of aces and kings have a frequency of
45% with odds of 220-1 to be your starting hands.
Strong hands are hands that may need help from the community cards
to win. These are medium pairs such as pair of 9, 7 and 8. While
drawing hands are definitely cards that need help from the flop,
these cards are the little pairs (those pairs below pair of 9),
connected straight flush draws and ace high flush draws. The last
category based on the strength is the garbage starting hands, these
are the one’s who are obviously should not be played at all.
For players who take the game of poker to seriously and plan to
make a career of it, these are only one of 5 factors that should
be considered. These are only basic facts and if one plans to further
figure this one out, practice with your friends is a great way
to try it.
