Texas Hold'em Rules

When I was a kid and when I was able to sneak into a casino, I was amazed by the video poker machine. So because of my utter amazement, I would end up losing the small amount of coins I had.

Recently, the celebrity poker showdown is being shown in cable TV. So because of my memories of sad memories of poker when I was kid, I tried watching the game. It was a very fun game to watch and because of that show, my interest in poker grew. It was also because of that show that I was able to learn a little bit of how it was played and played it with my cousins.

The current style of poker being played by the celebrities for their charity is a Texas style hold-em poker. If you have not watched nor have no idea of how this is played, here are some of the basic rules.

The object of the game is quite simple, have the most money by the end of the game that can be achieved by winning the pot money. There are two ways of winning a pot. One way is when you become the last player remaining because all of the other competitors have folded. The second way of winning is by having a showdown. When both of you compare both hands and see who has the best hand.

The start of the round or of a certain pot is when the players are handed out two cards faced down. The players in a certain cycle will open their cards one by one, he will then say if he is still in the game or if he has folded depending on the cards he has.

After the players have seen their cards and have not flopped, the dealer will then deal a set of 3 cards called the flop. Then one by one again, the players given their option can raise the amount of pot money or eventually flop out.

During this time, the players can bluff their opponents by raising the amount of money to a high sum that may make his competitor think he has the best hand. If some of the players can no longer afford the amount of money raised by his competitor, he eventually flops.

Then, if there are still competitors remaining the dealer eventually deals out the fourth card called the turn. The same process is then repeated until one flops out or both of them decide to see the fifth card for their chances. The fifth card that is drawn is called the river.

After the players have decided that the dealer will deal the river card, both players will lay down their 2 cards and see who has the better hand.

That is basically how a game of Texas Hold Em is played. It might seem really simple but this game requires a whole lot of strategy as well. It’s also quite fast paced, so you don’t get bored.
Just as long as you’re winning and not buried in serious debt this game is still fun.

However if this game seems to be holding you up more than you’ve been holding your competitors, maybe its time to quit. Or maybe betting potato chips may be better for you.
