Me Wanna Learn Poker Strategies

So you want to have the consummate skills of an expert poker, don’t you?

The road to becoming one of the world’s best poker players is one filled with lots of hardships and tricky twists and turns but if you have the patience and determination, that dream may just become a reality. To be one of the best, you must first learn more about the basic strategies that any self-respecting poker player knows by heart.

Don’t Bluff Against A Maniac

If you’re new to playing poker, you may be scratching your head now and wonder what exactly a maniac poker player constitutes. Well, there are four basic kinds of poker players that you can come across and be classified as.

The newcomer is called a calling station. That’s you. Another type of poker player is called a mouse. Timid and allergic to risks, the mouse shall only raise the ante if and when he’s got an unbeatable hand.

The third is the worst to have as an opponent; the rounder is what you want to become in the future, a poker player who’s so good that he can actually back out of a game without any cost to his pride.

He knows when to fight and when to give in. Lastly, there’s the maniac. The maniac bluffs his way most of the time and will match you bet after bet. Do not bother copying his style and bluff back. Instead, just wait for the right time and the right set cards before raising the ante and make the maniac lose big in one fell swoop.

Don’t Fall For The Trap

The Trap is what almost all gamblers succumb to once in a while. Even when everything is going against him, a gambler sometimes deludes himself into thinking that he’d be lucky sooner or later and pigheadedly stick to his old style of playing. Do not at all costs do the same thing! If something doesn’t seem to work, no matter what its success rate is, give in and change your style.

Where You Sit Matters

And indeed it does. In a poker game, especially one like Texas Hold’Em Poker, position matters a lot. The optimum position would be one belonging to any of the last players to deal or be the dealer yourself. By then, you would have seen what the others may be playing with and you have a better chance of coming up with a successful strategy.

Know When To Quit

Quite a simple rule but quite difficult to learn also. It takes a huge amount of self-discipline to know when to quit but be assured that there comes a time that you do have to quit. And of course, it’s better to quit while you’re ahead.
